Announcement Icon Wed, Nov 26, 2008 — 10573-080902: MOT1600: Thursday (Nov 27) class cancelled

Dear all,
I have not recovered fully from my illness yet, so I will have to cancel Thursday’s class as well. I am sorry about that.
I have tried to find a replacement teacher for tomorrow, but this did not work out, unfortunately.
I
will be up and running next week Monday (really!) and we will discuss
whether we need an extra two hours in class or whether we can find
other ways to convey the material I wanted you to learn.
Paulien.

Announcement Icon Thu, Dec 11, 2008 — Additional information about the session on December 12th

Dear students,

I
hope these last two weeks were fruitful and that you have learned to
apply the knowledge learned during the last couple of months. There
were some questions from a couple of groups concerning tomorrow’s
meeting that I will answer in this announcement.

The meeting will be held in room ID4B-65
and ID4B-66 from 8:45 to 12:30. A laptop will be available together
with a beamer so bring a memory stick with your presentation. You will
have a minimum of 5 minutes and a maximum of 15 minutes for the
presentation. After the presentation there will be room for discussion.
If you are the presenting team, your grade will depend on your
presentation. If you are not the presenting team, your grade will
depend on your participation in the group discussion after each
presentation. Thus, it could help to prepare some questions or
discussion points for your case.

Please
bring a paper copy of your assignment to class and give it to me before
the presentations start. Also email the assignment to

If you have any more questions please feel free to email me.

With kind regards,

Geerten van de Kaa

If you take English for Academic Purpose 2, the homework will be look like this

It is taken from http://blackboard.tudelft.nl/webapps/portal/frameset.jsp?tab_id=_2_1&url=%2fwebapps%2fblackboard%2fexecute%2flauncher%3ftype%3dCourse%26id%3d_22648_1%26url%3d

Item Homework given 17th September

h/w

1. Make sure you MASTER all the words and phrases on page 10 and words/phrases at the top of the columns on pages 11-16.

  1. MASTER means:
    1. You can pronounce all the words. (Where is the stress in the words, for example?)
    2. You can use the words and phrases spontaneously in a conversation. So without looking at the book?
    3. You know which preposition follows a verb
    4. You can translate difficult words/phrases into more simple language by using synonyms

There’ll be a short test next week to see if you do indeed master the language.

2. Learn the discussion phrases off by heart.

3.
If you’ve got one, please bring your English-English dictionaries to
every lecture as I haven’t got enough to go round. (You could take
turns doing this.) The more dictionaries we have, the better. For those
of you who can’t afford one or don’t want to buy one, www.OED.com is a good dictionary site.

4.
Learn all the words and phrases from unit 3 if you haven’t yet done so.
I don’t want to hear any excuses for homework that hasn’t been done
from now on.
